Sliding bookcase reveal hidden passage.

I saw this and looked up to see where I could I put it as if this were a catalog and I could buy from it. Sometimes, my wishful thinking clashes with my reality.

Ooo, want!

Or… sliding bookcase reveals hidden shoe closet.

this ain't livin' | Glee: Mattress

katoleary:

I have no doubt that some Glee viewers glossed over that scene and had no problem with it, and that others may  have thought that it was perfectly acceptable because Terri was a manipulative liar. That Terri, in fact, deserved what she got, because Will’s such a good guy. A stand up, all-round, Nice Guy and how could his wife be so mean and evil and not appreciative?

Glee, you have just crossed a line you cannot come back from. I thought that line had already been crossed, but I was wrong. The minute you depicted domestic violence and cast the abuser as the hero of the piece, you went irrevocably to a Dark Place. There is no redemption from here; I don’t care how Will’s character is being set up and how he is supposed to be read, in this episode, he was a Wronged Man and a Tragic Hero who assaulted his wife.

Glee is a show that gets away with all manner of offensive shit because it’s entertaining.  Meloukhia’s takedowns of it are consistently on-point.

I would argue that prior to the scene on the most recent episode was not a man lashing out in violence against his wife, but a man lashing out against the violence his wife was committing against him. Forget the fake baby thing. I’m talking about the way she refused to work, contribute to the home, prevented him from spending time with friends/family, spent money he brought home on things for herself, used rooms of their house to keep him out and keep things from him. She controlled the household. She controlled the money. She kept him constrained and on a leash. When she was consumed with jealousy over his friendship with the redhead, she stalked him. I’m not saying his lashing out was a comfortable scene to watch. I’m just saying that someone who has been constantly oppressed and manipulated and controlled by another person is just as much a victim of violence, and lashing out is an understandable reaction.

I wanted to kill the me underneath. That fact haunted my days and nights. When you realize you hate yourself so much, when you realize that you cannot stand who you are, and this deep spite has been the motivation behind your behavior for many years, your brain can’t quite deal with it. It will try very hard to avoid that realization; it will try, in a last-ditch effort to keep your remaining parts alive, to remake the rest of you. This is, I believe, different from the suicidal wish of those who are in so much pain that death feels like relief, different from the suicide I would later attempt, trying to escape that pain. This is a wish to murder yourself; the connotation of kill is too mild. This is a belief that you deserve slow torture, violent death.

I wish there were a notification system that obnoxiously alerted people of the following:

filigree:

kiamatthews:

  • when you furiously close their IM window or delete a text message.
  • when you erase their number from your phone.
  • when you delete their presence from your internet (IM, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, whatever)

This would make my life 800x better.

Well, I know there is a program called aMSN that does this for MSN Messenger. Other than that… Yeah. Yeah.
